After the war food ration coupons were issued which entitled people to acquire certain kinds of food in order to distribute the available food fairly. In the above scene Friedrich Neubauer depicts the fictional dialogue of two little dogs, tethered to a ring in a wall. Dogs were not allowed in food shops. What the characters depicted are talking about is left to the imagination of the onlooker. The inscription on the sign on the right side above makes the sketch a document of the time.
