Convertible Picture

The artist calls this early undated work plainly “convertible picture”. Later on the name “color pianos” establishes itself for these “keys” that can be activated in the most varied shades of colors and with the most manifold motifs and patterns. Active participation of the spectator is encouraged and enabled. New combinations are continuously created by turning and twiddling the bars, musical intuition is visualized. With Friedrich Neubauer the shades of color and motifs refer to an engineered environment whose development he, born in 1912, witnessed. When he was a child the furniture produced in the parental factory was still delivered to the customers with horse and cart.
